Sapere Aude
The College of Wooster’s Student-run Philosophical Journal
CALL FOR PAPERS
Students of the College of Wooster
Philosophy Department Wooster, OH
‘Sapere Aude’, as used in Immanuel Kant’s Essay, “What is Enlightenment?” means ‘Dare to Know.’ This phrase exemplifies the mission of Sapere Aude. Our aim is to facilitate intellectual discovery by encouraging students to reason independently and to explore unfamiliar philosophical territory.
We invite undergraduate students to submit academic philosophical papers, and non-academic pieces in all areas of philosophy. These should exhibit independent thought and exemplify a deep understanding of a philosophical issue.
Sapere Aude utilizes a double-blind review method, so all submissions must be void of any author or institution name. Instead, authors must submit a separate word biography of up to 200 words containing their name, class year, institution, and any other information they would like to share should their submission be considered for publication.
Papers sent to Sapere Aude for consideration of inclusion must adhere to the following:
Academic:
- Each entry should be prepared for blind review.
- All entries should be between 2000-5000 words in length and adhere to Chicago Manual of Style 18th Edition.
- All entries should be submitted as an electronic copy (.Docx only, please) to Sapere_aude@wooster.edu.
Non-Academic:
- These include, but are not limited to, poetry, artwork, and other creative works.
- Although these pieces may be about any topic of choice, they should represent a meaningful effort to evoke philosophical concepts, ideas, or arguments.
- A think piece of no more than 500 words may be included as part of the submission.
Deadline for Submission:
January 26th, 2027
Please send any questions to Sapere_Aude@wooster.edu.
